The more our society advances towards the electronic age, the more we need to start our children out at a younger age on laptops so that they become familiar with the technology. Let’s face it anything we can do to give our children a “leg up” in the world is worth our time and investment. And many of the large children’s toy manufactures have realized this and are gearing computer laptop educational toys towards the younger kids of today.

The younger child friendly laptops have larger knobs and bright colors to help keep our children’s attention a little longer. Plus they are integrating our best beloved characters into the software. Who wouldn’t want to learn something from Winnie the Pooh? They are able to play with the characters of some of their favorite books and toys while learning skills such as eye hand co-ordination and manual dexterity skills.

The laptop becomes fun for all involved. Parents working with their children to learn a new skill and kids learning some things on their own once they are shown how to play with their new computer. Personally, I think this is a much better choice than just sitting your child down in front of the TV watching something that may or may not stimulate their learning process in the correct way.

Children see their older siblings and parents working on computers and want to copy them . It is something that has been happening in our society for a very long time. Kids like to mimic anyone, whether it is something bad that they see you or teenagers do, think smoking, cussing, breaking things or seeing something positive like giving hugs, planting plants, creating gifts or working with some type of fun software on the computer, laughing and having fun in life. I would much rather have my child learn fun productive things than thinking it is cool to smoke and cuss.

I don’t think children should spend the majority of their time on any type of computer or even indoors for that matter. Everyone needs sunshine and the cool thing about laptops of any size, you can take them outdoors and play with them there also. We all need the vitamin D that the sun provides, about 20 minutes worth daily. It is good for our bodies and our soul to be outside enjoying nature. Take the laptops outside, sit at a picnic table and enjoy both. Then close everything up and go run around chasing your child and laughing. We must teach balance in all things.
About the Author:

Empire High School in Vail, located on the edge of Tucson, is the first in the Arizona schools to be all-electronic. Instead of textbooks, the 350 students use wireless, Apple laptop computers to research, organize their data, write and graph assignments, and create class presentations.

The Arizona schools Empire High is a new school with a blank slate. Arizona schools officials could hire new teachers committed to technology-based teaching and purchase computers instead of textbooks. The Arizona schools officials wanted to move teachers away from habitual teaching from textbooks, cover-to-cover, and gave area students the choice to attend Empire or another school.

Having researched schools in other states prior to the all-electronic decision, Arizona schools officials found students who were clearly more engaged in their studies and unusually enthusiastic about school. One reason was that they took a more active part in the lesson process, rather than everything being “fed” to them. Another advantage to laptops over textbooks is that groundbreaking information takes five to six years to get into textbooks, especially in the science fields. Of the few all-electronic schools across the nation, many are doing well from the perspective of both the students and the educators. The Arizona schools officials clearly felt they could enhance their students’ educational experience with technology over textbooks.

Replacing textbooks with laptops for other Arizona schools would prove expensive at $850 each. For Empire, they took the usual $500 to $600 cost per student for a complete set of textbooks for four years, as well as the cost of a computer lab, and used this money to purchase the laptops and added technology needs.

Some new challenges had to be faced by the Arizona schools’ new Empire High and research was done to address them. They had 350 students, who needed to be continuously and reliably connected to the Internet at high speed. All the laptops had to be configured to best suit the needs of the students for learning. The needed educational material had to be located on the Internet and integrated into lesson plans. A method for students to submit assignments across the Web was needed. These were problems they knew had to be resolved before the school year began.

What the Arizona schools officials had not planned on was a different sort of technological problem. It seems that many students who used home computers for gaming, surfing the Internet, and X-Box, had a difficult time translating these skills to those needed in school, such as using word processing software, saving documents to specific locations, and being able to retrieve the files later. Skills training had to be added to the lesson plans.

For other schools that are interested in setting up an all-electronic school, the Arizona schools officials advise that it must be a public choice. You cannot force such drastic learning changes. Include the parents and teachers in the planning at the ground floor.

After a year, the system is working well overall. The Arizona schools plan to increase enrollment at Empire High to 750 students in the near future.

This information on Arizona schools is brought to you by http://www.schoolsk-12.com

“Back To School” is perhaps the most dreaded three word phrase in the English language for the majority of young people enjoying the last few days of summer. But for merchants and companies which cater to the student market, those three magic words are worth their weight in gold.

However, for many parents those words can produce mixed feelings, some look forward with guilty relief to having all that free time when they don’t have to worry about their children; while other parents are worried about outfitting and supplying their little geniuses with the necessary tools to make sure they’re not disadvantaged when it comes to learning.

In our computer obsessed world, one major part of that equation is making sure your school age child or even your college off-spring has a good quality laptop or netbook. More and more students are using these handy gadgets to great advantage to further their education. So much so, that many students, regardless of age, would feel lost in the classroom without a portable laptop computer of some kind.

In recent years, we have seen the introduction of netbooks into the student market. These small mini-laptops usually have displays of 10 inches or less, runs Windows or Linux and sells for well under $500. They were first introduced by Asustek in the fall of 2007 with the introduction of its Eee PC. Netbooks are now out-selling laptops in many markets.

Netbooks by their very design are very portable and mobile. These small compact lightweight computers are ideal for the student. Some very popular and highly rated netbooks makers include Asus, MSI, Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer… and the list goes on.

Student laptops or laptops for students have always been targeted by laptop designers and makers. For a good student laptop you should look for a laptop that is or has the following features:
1. Sturdy
2. Lightweight
3. Portable
4. Secure
5. High Performance
6. Long Battery Life

And of course, another major consideration for most parents is price. Fortunately, laptop prices have steadily fallen in the last few years and it is now possible to even get a quality machine for under $500. However, to get the best performance laptop buyers will usually have to cough up more of their hard earned dollars.

HP and Dell Coupons

More and more parents and students are looking and shopping online to find their “back to school” laptop or netbook. Many laptop manufacturers offer special exclusive online deals to their affiliates and merchants. Especially online coupons from HP, Lenovo and Dell can save the cash-strapped parent or college student significant savings just by clicking a few links or placing in the appropriate coupon code.

In addition, many parents are turning to the web because they can find more variety both in the choice of laptops and in the choice of stores if you shop online for your laptop. Plus, by using the web, you can shop from the comfort of your home.

Perhaps, the only disadvantage is that you can’t actually handle or “tire-kick” the notebook computer you’re considering but now with countless online videos featuring your favorite laptop you can still get a pretty good idea of what your laptop will look like and how well it will perform by viewing these laptop review videos and virtual tours.

Fortunately, for any worried parent there is a wealth of student laptop information on the web which they can easily access to help them make the right choice when it comes to buying the best laptop or netbook for their children who are heading back to school. Just do a little homework of your own and your child will be properly “laptop enabled” to meet any challenges that may come their way.

Netbooks have grown a lot in the last years. Even though they didn’t even exist in early 2007, this type of mini laptops are now responsible for more than 20% of notebooks sells all over the world. That means they become very very popular in a short period of time, and their popularity is raising everyday.

That happened because, unlike the regular laptops, netbooks come with a series of advantages: they are cheaper, smaller, lighter and provide better battery life. On the other part, hardware inside, performances and sometimes ergonomics (for the keyboard and touch-pad) are not that good, but hey, I’m pretty sure most of us don’t even use a laptop for anything else than regular applications, and those can be easily run on a netbook also.

As I’ve told you, netbooks are pretty cheap. You can get a decent one for as low as 300 bucks, although there are some with better hardware that can go up to $800 bucks. If you want to be able to run anything you want decently, a modern OS like Windows 7 and maybe some games, I would advice you not to buy entry level or mainstream such mini laptops. But instead go for the better ones.

The good part is that winter sales period in on its way right now, and I’m pretty sure there will be some very good offers on such netbooks, probably the most during Black Friday Deals 2009 day, on late November . I for one reckon mainstream netbooks will drop below $300 (they currently retail for around $350), while the better 11.6 inch ones with CULV processors and maybe Nvidia ION will drop at least $70 bucks from their price, but only on a limited time.

That because most such best mini notebook computers are as cheap as they can be already. Thus, selling them with big discounts will not be convenient for producers, producers whom already don’t really appreciate netbooks for their low margins of profit.

We’ll just have to wait for Black Friday and the other special days in the winter sales season to see how good deals we will be able to get on netbooks this year.

Depending what your need is for the laptop will determine if you really need the best of the best or one that will cover your requirements. If your just a casual surfer of the net, college student or you need a good laptop for your business, each type of person will desire something different.

The person who goes on the internet just to check their e-mails or to chat with their friends will only require a basic computer with minimal amount of RAM as well as programs. They wouldn’t need to get all the up grades or even fill their laptop with major amount of gigs.

A college student, depending on what type of classes he or she are taking, must decide if they would want to get graphic programs or not. A big issue with students is that they want the laptop to be conveniently mobile. Some laptops are bulky and have some weight. The best college laptop is the one that works for that particular person.

As for the business man or women, their needs will also vary. First of all they need one that will not fail them. They will require a dependable laptop that can be mobile as well. Since a businessperson travels quite a bit he will need to make sure that he or she gets a long life battery and a back up one as well. The programs that they’ll need will also depend on what field of work they are in. In advertising one would need a laptop that has a few different graphic programs, while someone in banking would need spreadsheets and financial programs.

Whatever the need there’s a laptop out there for you. Making a list of exactly what you’ll be doing with it and using it for will help you in your decision.
About the Author:

Asus Eee Pc 1005HA-PU1X Netbook: Asus has been on the top of this bestseller’s list for as long as I can remember. This is not surprising as they were one of the first manufacturers that came up with the netbook concept. The new Asus Eee Pc 1005HA sports a new stylish design, a better keyboard, coupled with the latest netbook specs. Like the Toshiba Mini, this model is powered by the Intel N290 (1.66GHz) processor. In addition to the 160GB of storage, Asus also offer an additional 10GB of online storage. There were also some big improvements in the keyboard of this model. It feels very good to type on and the large right-shift key greatly improves the typing experience. One of my favorite features on this model is that the battery can last up to an amazing 10.5 hours on a single charge. Selling points: Stylish Design, long battery life, great performance and high-end specs.

Acer Aspire One AOD150 Netbook: This netbook model is one of the oldest models on the bestseller’s list. When it comes to specs and features, it doesn’t exactly have the latest ones but yet, remains to be a favorite among consumers. Although it doesn’t come with extra features such as Bluetooth, 802.11 b/n wi-fi (it comes with 802.11b/g), and the latest processor (it runs on the Intel N270), it still functions very well as an entry-level netbook. It has a sleek and stylish design, comes in a variety of colors and most importantly, well priced. In fact, the Acer Aspire One is currently one of the cheapest netbooks in the market. Selling points: Stylish design and low price tag.

Toshiba Mini Netbook: The Toshiba Mini is currently the latest entry to the list, and looking at sales figures, it looks set to give Asus and Acer a good run for their money. For starters it has most of the high-end specs of the Asus 1005HA. It even has an astounding battery lifespan of 9 hours on a single charge, making it the closest competitor to the Asus model. The Toshiba Mini differentiates itself from other models in terms of design and features. For starters, the Toshiba Mini has a matte external casing as opposed to the common glossy surface. This makes it much easier to maintain, as it doesn’t get fingerprint stains as easily. The only thing that I didn’t like about the design is the protruding battery pack on the back of the device. Other than that, this model has a very professional look to it. It also incorporates a very cool USB feature where you can charge your devices even when the netbook is off or on stand-by mode. Selling feature: Design, unique features and battery life.
About the Author:

So there you are, rushing to catch a plane. You’ve got an important presentation on your laptop, along with sensitive company and personal information. And then, suddenly, it’s gone.

Either you’ve lost it, or it’s been stolen.

Airports and hotels are favourite places for thieves. Laptops disappear from both and that’s bad enough. But often, irreplaceable data has gone with them. According to Safeware, an insurance agency specialising in insuring high-tech equipment, in the US alone 591,000 laptops vanished in 2001.

None of this has to happen to you. But you have to be extra careful today. With the increased security at airports, losing track of a laptop is easier than ever. Here are six guidelines to help you avoid seeing your notebook PC disappear — or, if it does, help you find it or get a quick replacement.

Tips for Getting Through Security Checks

Oddly, some airports have collected stacks of laptops. They’re left behind by harried passengers in security areas. Most are reclaimed eventually. But some people never come back for their machines.

Obviously, you’ve got to allow yourself plenty of time when you fly. When I travel, I carry my laptop in a backpack. There’s lots of room in there, and it’s inconspicuous. I see fashionable businesspeople carrying laptops in expensive cases. They’re asking for trouble. Those cases say, “Laptop! Laptop! Steal me!”

Security people most likely will want to check the laptop. If possible, handle it yourself, rather than having them do it.

Don’t be afraid to speak up. You don’t need your machine damaged.

Be sure your battery is charged. The security people may well want to turn on the machine. Most important, don’t let it out of your sight. This becomes especially difficult if you are selected for a random head-to-toe check.

Once on board your flight, put the computer — safely stowed in your bag — under the seat in front of you. Try to avoid putting it in the overhead bin. Others will have more access to it there.

Have Sensitive Data? Encrypt It

If you have sensitive information on your computer, consider encrypting it. If you have Windows XP, you already have the tools needed. While the thief has your machine, these extra steps will make it much more difficult to access the laptop’s data.

Encryption will protect your business secrets, but it won’t retrieve your data. To do that, you’ve got to back up your information to another computer. If you run your own server, you can easily upload files to it.

You don’t have to back up everything on the laptop. Just copy the files you will need to the server. If your laptop should be stolen on your trip, you may be able to borrow a computer at your destination and download your important files. Finding time for backups is a pain, I know. But they can save you.

Make Your MP3 Player do Double-Duty

If you don’t have a server, or don’t want to back up to it, take a look at MP3 players. Some today have huge hard drives. They are easily hooked to a laptop through the USB or FireWire ports. The data can then be copied to the MP3 player. These things can copy any data, not just MP3s.

Trace a Stolen Laptop’s Location

If your laptop does get stolen, wouldn’t it be great if the system could do the high-tech equivalent of phoning home? There are programs that will report the location of a stolen laptop. They work when the laptop connects to the internet.

Security experts also say that engraving your name on the computer is helpful. That will make it more difficult to sell on so thieves may look elsewhere.

Set a System Password

Every road warrior should protect their laptop with a start-up password. This way, a system password prompt will appear each time you start your computer before microsoft windows even begins to load. It will prohibit any access to the computer at all.

To create a system password, you’ll need to access your computer’s setup utility (also known as BIOS settings, which stands for “Basic Input/Output System”). Typically you do this by pressing Delete, Esc or F1 as soon as you turn on the computer. Check the manual though, as some computers are different.

Consider Laptop PC Insurance

If your laptop is expensive (and aren’t they all?) you might want to insure it. Some homeowners, renters and business insurance policies don’t cover computers, and if they do, there may be many conditions attached.

Today’s laptops are ripe targets for thieves. If you follow these basic laptop guidelines along with some good common sense, you won’t have to give yours up.
