Interactive Education is a learning concept comprising of the ICT (information and communication technology) based tools pushing the boundaries of learning and teaching to new heights. The time has come for creating an interactive educational environment in order to prepare students with skills required to succeed in the constantly changing global economy. The key components of the ICT enabled interactive education are the computers, whiteboard, visualisers (also known as Document cameras), projectors, interactive response systems and educational content.

Computers are the prime thing that is used in creating an interactive education environment. Nowadays educators are commonly using a projector, in integration with a laptop or desktop computer, to project the information of computer monitor on to a screen or whiteboard.

Whiteboard are replacing the traditional boards. Educator can perform computer functions with finger or pen using the whiteboard. The whiteboard software allows educator to write, draw and annotate on them just like the traditional one. These annotations can be saved in the computer as an electronic file in various formats such as Picture, power point, PDF, HTML and can be used later for teaching purpose or send to absent student as an email attachment. Teacher uses interactive response systems to poll students by asking questions related to the subject topic and assess the students based on these responses.

This helps teachers to clarify the doubts and misconceptions of students about topic. Visualisers or document cameras display any text, 2D or 3D object on the Whiteboard and pull down screens with the help of projector enabling visual learning.

Picture the modern office. What would you expect to see in there, technology wise? You’d expect a computer per workstation – with internet access for each one – plus a proliferation of laptops, Palm Pilots, Blackberries and all the rest. So why do you see most schools – where the next generation to enter the work force is being trained – using methods of teaching that haven’t progressed many steps on since the use of the slate? Primarily, this is the main reason why you should try to integrate technology in your classroom.

And that’s not the only reason why you should integrate technology in your classroom. When an organization you belong to wants to contact you (and thirty other people) about an upcoming event, how do you get notified? Via email, usually. So why do teachers still use “Pupil Post” and send messages home on slips of paper to parents (a notoriously unreliable method of communication)?

Even if you’re the sports coach/physical education teacher, you can integrate technology in your classroom. Don’t all the top sports coaches use slow-motion replay to show the athletes they work with how to improve their technique? While you may not be able to provide this sort of coaching to every student, you may be able to use a video to show how the muscles in a runner’s leg work together, to give one example.

The possibilities are almost endless. Here are some suggestions to try if you want to integrate technology in your classroom:

Use video. This is imperative for science, social studies, film study, media studies or Shakespeare study, but this most common form of technology has wider, cross-curricular uses. Similar technology types include DVDs and online video clips. Don’t just play them – use them creatively as part of your lesson.

Use computers for research. Most of your students probably already know how to use search engines to find what they need or want to know. As a teacher who wants to integrate technology in your classroom, your task is to teach them how to use these (if they don’t already know), how to sort good and useful information sources from unreliable ones (e.g. someone’s blog is probably not likely to be the best source of scientific information… unless it’s the blog of a leading scientist), and how to cite internet-based sources correctly in a bibliography.

Use computers to present information to your class. Whether you have an up-to-date projector or not, remember your students and you are used to seeing images via media players on the internet. It is important to learn about different players and use them in center work with the computer or in guided instruction with the class if you have a projector. There are different media files to know, but the Internet has already updated itself and a lot of embedded players play right from their webpage so you can bookmark, time signature mark or have several of the same pages queued for matching different lesson points. Don’t forget PowerPoint, it is still an effective point-by-point, easily available and usable software program for presenting lesson information. New technologies like the interactive white boards are coming, so take a look at online tutorials and usage because even if you don’t have the technology yet, there are creative lesson ideas and techniques for using technology.

Use a classroom video camera to record your most important lessons and upload this to your classroom website. This way, students can catch up on lessons they missed out on, parents can have a way to see what’s going on in the classroom, valuable classroom activities and student participation can be had by having and using a classroom video recorder and you and your students can learn valuable editing techniques that come with camera software.

This is an exciting time to be a teacher. The new resources open up unbelievable possibilities, especially when time is such a constraint in your day to day schedule, but it is important to take the extra time to set up technology in your classroom and in your lessons. The result will be better lessons for your digital native students.

Don’t let the words “technology integration” scare you. Standard methods for using media in your elementary lessons are still the benchmark for an effective lesson. Technology should be seen as just another tool in your lesson-not the lesson. So you have registered for your first online degree course and the 8 or 9 week course started 2 weeks ago. You find yourself falling behind with discussion posts and assignments already, even though you promised yourself not to procrastinate, however; here it is! What do you do now? You are working full time, you have a family, you need the degree for promotion and the only available study time is after midnight!

Here are some winning strategies:

1. Invest in a laptop with wireless access that can go everywhere with you so you can post your work almost anywhere at a moments notice.

2. Take a piece of the work item and do one thing at a time.

3. Have a look at what others are saying in the discussion posts and reply to some of your peers, this will gain you your participation points already!

4. Start the week’s assignment by doing the easiest part first and leave the digital document where you can access and add to it.

5. Do not stress out on depending on last minute discussion, & posts.

6. Set an alarm clock on your cell phone for after midnight for a 15-30 minute look at the list of work items due and make a plan of action of how to meet the requirements.

7. Do something! No matter how small, in order to move the work items forward.

8. Post what you have! Even if it is unfinished you will earn some points.

Online nursing degrees are growing in popularity as more people rush to enter the lucrative, highly in-demand field of nursing.

Online degrees offer some wonderful advantages. You can take classes at whatever time of day is convenient for you. You can work full-time and still earn a salary while getting your degree. You can bring your laptop with you and study and send in homework assignments while you are on the bus or subway, at the beach, or at the coffeeshop. You don’t have to spend time and gasoline driving to a college campus, looking for parking, walking half a mile to your building, walking back….
However, online nursing degrees do have their limitations.

First of all, there is currently only one online program in the country that we know of – the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh – that allows a person with no healthcare degree or certificate to get their nursing degree. They take a limited number of students, they require you to have a previous bachelor’s degree, you must have completed a number of science and other prerequisites, and they grant an accelerated second bachelor’s degree. Most of the program is online, but you must go to the campus in Oshkosh several times, AND not every state offers the clinicals that are required for the program.

What is much more common are programs that allow an LPN or a paramedic to take a “bridge” program which allows the LPN to complete their associate degree and become a registered nurse. An example of this is Chamberlain College of Nursing. Excelsior College and many others offer these opportunities as well.

You can also, after you get your associate’s degree in nursing, take online classes to get a bachelor’s of science in nursing. This frequently will result in a higher salary, and also, if you want to progress into managerial positions, you generally need at least a BSN.

There are online nursing degree programs which grant master’s degrees in nursing as well.
Also, you can take many of your prerequisites online – English, psychology, nutrition, etc. You need to have those completed before you are accepted into an LPN to RN bridge program.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Not every state accepts these online nursing programs. For example Florida does not recognize Excelsiors paramedic to lpn program, so if you took that program, you would not be able to sit for the NCLEX-RN program in Florida. You must check with your state board of nursing before you sign up with the online program, because you do not want to spend all that time and money and find out that you are not eligible to sit for the NCLEX, which is the test that you must pass in order to be licensed as a nurse.

I am still an advocate for online education. It’s the best education in the world, and it relieves a lot of stress to a person who does not like to travel other than work and back. Since my first article on this subject, online education has taken a leap into the future. Traditional colleges are offering online college courses also to join the ranks of the online education.

Since my first article there are more and more universities getting into the band wagon of online education, and more students taking the chance and the risk to make their educational dreams come true. All they have to do is possess a computer and a little knowledge to get them going.

I could be watching Law and Order and still utilize my skills by studying for my course, and not spending excessive money on gas and bus fare to stroll into a building to make my dreams come true.

I attended Kaplan University and I am pleased to announce that I am about to graduate. My requirements and courses are done, and let me tell you it was not an easy road. I am not going to tell you that going online is not without stress, but its good stress. You need a lot of discipline to keep up with deadlines and there are plenty of them. Deadlines are good for online education because it keeps you on the road to completion of your assignments and motivates you.

There are still students who prefer to interact with students in person on a college campus, and I salute those students. Education is important to everyone and however you choose to obtain it is your choice.

I recommend online education for busy full-time people, and children. When the children are in bed, this is the time to sit down at your computer or laptop and get into your assignments. You might be able to tackle some of your assignments at lunch or on the job as long as a computer is handy for you.

My graduation ceremony is February, 2007 in Florida. I am looking forward to attending the ceremony. I am so proud of myself for accomplishing this task and graduating with an Associate Degree in Paralegal Science. In my last semester I had three classes, and I was literally pulling out my hair. College Algebra was one of my courses, and math is not one of my favorite subjects. I was able to work with a tutor and I passed all three classes with flying colors. I feel good, and soon when I am holding my degree in my hand, I am going to shout and celebrate. A friend of mine finished her online B.A. program and she gave herself a party to celebrate. It was a long and difficult road, but we both accomplished what we set out to do. Now the door is open for employment opportunities and utilizing the degree that we worked so hard for.

My friend was already offered a job when she completed her studies, so online education does work in boundaries. You just need the faith that you can use your computer for education and not just surfing the net, chatting, and meeting people on myspace.com. Your computer/laptop can make your dreams come true.

As you can see I am still preaching about online education; the need still exists for women/men who have been out of college for years. This is the opportunity to get off your fanny and get that associate, B.A., and Masters degree. You can do it, and all you have to do is be computer literate. If not, there are CD’s out there to teach you how to educate yourself on the computer. There is no excuse; surf the net and find Kaplan University and many more that will enable you to finish or begin your education.

Now that I have my associate degree is that the end of schooling for me? I am pleased to announce that I am already into my second course for my B.A. in English/Professional Writing at Ellis College. I am not going to stop here. I will be in online schooling until I reach my Masters in Creative Writing, and then the road ends for me. There will be teaching opportunities for me, and I look forward to this new chapter in my life.

Online Education is expensive, but so is the cost of living. I rather sacrifice and pay money for an education that is going to benefit me for a career instead of a job; living from paycheck to paycheck. I get the rewards by making more money than I know I am worth, and then some. Financial Aide is available and some grants for low income people who are qualified.

Excuses are the negative traits haunting you in an effort to enable. I knocked on the door of education and look where I am today. I am not particular about the job I have now. With my associate degree in paralegal science I am going to find the job I want, and turn it into a career. I am in the money now, and not living from paycheck to paycheck. I am finally here!

So what are you all waiting for? Kaplan University, and Ellis College, and many more is the key to success and we all want it.
