Price: When the Toshiba Mini netbook was released, it was a little more expensive that most netbooks in the market. With the netbook market getting increasingly competitive, Toshiba has since lowered its price. The Toshiba Mini and HP mini now have almost identical prices of around $329 each, which is a good bargain for netbooks of this stature (and great news for us budget conscious consumers). Winner: Draw

Battery Life: Both these laptop are powered by a 6-cell battery but you will be surprise to discover the battery lifespan differences in these two models. The battery on the HP mini can last about 5-6 hours on a single charge while the Toshiba netbook’s battery can last up to 9 hours without the need for a recharge. Winner: Toshiba Mini.

Specs: In this category, both models have almost identical specs, namely 1GB of RAM a 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g wi-fi connectivity and an array of similar specs. The Toshiba Mini tops the specs of the HP mini in a just a few aspects. For instance, the Toshiba netbook has a slightly more powerful Intel Atom N280 (1.66Ghz) processor. Winner: Toshiba Mini

Keyboard:This is another close call. They keyboard on the HP netbook is well known to be the most comfortable to type on. The Toshiba Mini’s keyboard is also pretty well designed. It fells good to type on, but not as good as the HP model. There is something bout the curved keys on the HP keyboard that gives it a slight edge. Winner: HP Mini

Design:This is quite a subjective category as it is largely a matter of taste. The HP mini has a glossy external surface with some subtle circular patters. The Toshiba netbook on the other hand has a matte surface. The Toshiba model is more distinctive when compared to other notebooks but the HP model is quite stylish in its own right. So which one is more stylish? You be the judge. Winner: Draw

Features:The Toshiba netbook has slightly more features than the HP mini. For instance the Toshiba model has the capability to charge devices when it is standby mode or off. It is also a much more environmentally friendly netbook, where it is RoHS compliant, EPEAT Gold and Energy Star 5.0 compliant. Winner: Toshiba Mini

Overall: All in all, the Toshiba Mini is a much better netbook in many aspects. The HP Mini is also a formidable competitor in its own right where it will win over lots of fans with its wonderful keyboard and edgy design. The Toshiba model on the other will win over the hearts of those who are looking for a powerful, reliable and professional feature-filled netbook model.

Mini laptops or netbooks are the new category of laptops, they are designed as a secondary system that you can carry anywhere you go. Their size is a little bigger than a paperback book, they weigh less than 3 pounds and have battery-saving features. Mini laptop displays are about 7 to 10 inches together with about 512MB to 1GB of RAM and a traditional hard drive. Unlike other laptops, netbooks have slower energy saving processors, so games won’t run as well.

If you are in the market for a netbook here are some things to look for and watch out for:

First you have to know what you want to use it for and what your budget it. If you are looking for a full featured laptop computer then don’t buy a mini laptop or netbook. The processor of a netbook is less powerful than a common laptop, this is to provide longer battery life. Mini laptops are good for doing homework on a word processing program, surfing the internet, working on spreadsheets or other office work and presentations. Buy a netbook with a screen size of 8.9 inch or larger, because if your screen is small the disadvantage is you won’t be able to read an entire web page. This is less of a problem if you have a larger screen. Get a 6 cell battery for it will offer you a whole lot more running time compared to the standard 3 cell batter. Aside from the additional cost you may find it a little heavier, but I think the trade-offs are worth it. Try out the keypad first, and see if you’re comfortable with it. Also check the software that comes pre-installed. Is it everything you need? Shop around, list all the prices you find and compare them.

Do not load heavy applications on your mini laptop, since they are mini they do not have as much memory compared to normal laptops. It is also important for you to know which operating system is best for your mini laptop. Here is some information of the two most commonly used operating systems on mini laptops.

Linux: It considerably lessens the chance of a malware attack because of its smaller user base. The makers also designed its interface to be as easy as windows. There is just one disadvantage, you might have a hard time installing new programs and may need to do some tinkering in the command line. On the whole Linux is getting easier to use all the time, but I would still say only more computer savvy people should choose it for now.

Windows: This is mainly the most common operating system for mini laptops. This OS is compatible with almost every accessory or software program in the market. But because of their massive market share, they are targeted by malware attacks. So you have to have a strong security program.

Mini laptops are much cheaper compared to a normal laptops. So it is easier for you top find a cheap mini laptop deal online. Today there are lots of trustworthy sites online, and if you are not sure if they can be trusted you could always check reviews of them online.

There are notebook, there are laptops, and there are netbooks. Many people are aware of this, but most people could not tell you difference between the three. The netbook is the baby of the bunch: younger, smaller and a lot less mature.

A netbook, simply put, is a smaller notebook computer. They are called “net” books because they are designed to access the internet. Although some can function the same as larger counterparts, many have only the features necessary for mobile communication and web browsing.

The other two members of the mobile computer family are not defined by their capabilities. Notebooks and laptops are classified strictly by their size. A laptop computer is the largest option. Its name means: a computer that you can sit on your lap. A notebook computer has a similarly simple definition: a computer the size of a writing notebook. Within their primary definition of notebook or laptop, these computers will vary in features, power and functionality.

Although the definition seems simple, there are few additional determinates besides being small and great for the internet. Netbooks are generally quite affordable. Some define a netbook as a smaller, lighter notebook that is under $500. Some computer manufacturers do not agree with this definition.

In order to remain low cost, net focused notebooks lack the power of their mobile cousins. They sometimes are unable to run the same operating systems as notebooks and desktops, and may not run certain programs. They will however run all the applications necessary to use the internet.

For many though, hey are not aware of the performance difference between a notebook and netbook until they use them. Some models do not include DVD or CD drives. Other users may notice that the little systems do not function as fast as their desktops and become discouraged.

Size, one of the strengths of the netbook, is possibly its greatest limitation. These tiny computers often do not have full size keyboards, which can be hard for adults to use. They also have tiny screens. Not everyone prefers trying to read an internet page on a 9 inch screen.

Although there are many options available today in computers, it shouldn’t be daunting. To be honest, it really isn’t that hard to understand the difference between a netbook and laptop. As long as you stick to your needs when it is your turn to buy your new mobile computer you will be happy with your choice.

The more our society advances towards the electronic age, the more we need to start our children out at a younger age on laptops so that they become familiar with the technology. Let’s face it anything we can do to give our children a “leg up” in the world is worth our time and investment. And many of the large children’s toy manufactures have realized this and are gearing computer laptop educational toys towards the younger kids of today.

The younger child friendly laptops have larger knobs and bright colors to help keep our children’s attention a little longer. Plus they are integrating our best beloved characters into the software. Who wouldn’t want to learn something from Winnie the Pooh? They are able to play with the characters of some of their favorite books and toys while learning skills such as eye hand co-ordination and manual dexterity skills.

The laptop becomes fun for all involved. Parents working with their children to learn a new skill and kids learning some things on their own once they are shown how to play with their new computer. Personally, I think this is a much better choice than just sitting your child down in front of the TV watching something that may or may not stimulate their learning process in the correct way.

Children see their older siblings and parents working on computers and want to copy them . It is something that has been happening in our society for a very long time. Kids like to mimic anyone, whether it is something bad that they see you or teenagers do, think smoking, cussing, breaking things or seeing something positive like giving hugs, planting plants, creating gifts or working with some type of fun software on the computer, laughing and having fun in life. I would much rather have my child learn fun productive things than thinking it is cool to smoke and cuss.

I don’t think children should spend the majority of their time on any type of computer or even indoors for that matter. Everyone needs sunshine and the cool thing about laptops of any size, you can take them outdoors and play with them there also. We all need the vitamin D that the sun provides, about 20 minutes worth daily. It is good for our bodies and our soul to be outside enjoying nature. Take the laptops outside, sit at a picnic table and enjoy both. Then close everything up and go run around chasing your child and laughing. We must teach balance in all things.
About the Author:

Students are going to school by the millions every year, and are so unfamiliar with off the details of finding the right tools to help them with their education.

So I have created a great article with some information on how to find the right laptop to use as a educational tool. Many students these days have tons of of responsibilities and deadlines to be so how could they fix their dilemma and make things easier for them.

Well, first they should look for the right laptop, which has a portable battery and auxiliary backup. A portable laptop will make carrying the information that they need for school easier and more accessible and classes. My personal selection for a laptop would be to get something that has 1 GB or 2 GB of memory and have the windows XP home edition available for operational systems.

If you were to get a laptop with the gigabyte and windows XP home edition then you should be on the right track to getting the proper laptop for school.

Next I would suggest making sure that you have access or your computer should or will allow you to get spyware uploaded to the program. Having spyware protection is very vital to your protection on the Internet and any other type of online venture. I hope that this information is able to help you in the first steps to getting your educational tools to start college with, and you will be able to protect your information from the cyber thieves online.

With laptops becoming more and more a part of our life, just like computers already did, a new trend came to life – laptop skins. This simple, yet effective modification for your laptop lets you completely change the way you feel about your favorite gadget.

Let’s think about for a second. Having a laptop skin is not just an fashion statement (although it could be a pretty damn cool one). Laptop skin can also serve to protect your laptop from scratches, smudges and unwanted damage etc. It is very similar to the way you your protect your car seats. And it’s much easier to replace a scratched laptop skin (~$20) then a damaged laptop.

Another creative use of a laptop skin is to for marketing purposes. You can put your company logo on it and let everyone know about it when you open up your laptop in a cafe, club or an airplane. Since it is a pretty new thing (it all started about two years ago) it will be a real attention grabber. Being so cheap laptop skins are also collectible – you can build your own collection. You can have a skin for a certain occasion, current mood or just time of the day! Use your imagination. Personalize yourself.

Last but not least, it allows you to freshen up the looks of your laptop giving you more pleasure every time you use it. It also lets you express your opinion on anything because you can put virtually everything on it. So simple, so cheap and yet so wonderful invention.

So you want to buy an Asus Eee PC. There are more than 30 different models that have now been released, but you have had a look at all the great models available and you’ve struggled to make a choice. Battery life: you don’t know if the one you want is appropriate, or if a more expensive model is really worth it. This article aims to help you think a little more constructively about the battery life issue, and while you still will have to make your own decision, I hope that the criteria I outline will help you find the best model.

1. Your situation: where and when?

Where exactly will you be using your Asus Eee PC after you buy it? Will it be within easy reach of a power outlet? Or will you be unpacking it in a variety of different locations, and power sockets may be unavailable? What kind of time period will you be using it for? A couple of hours a day or in excess of five hours? If you suspect that you will be using it a lot more for a lot a lot longer, you can choose to either buy an additional battery if you are buying an older model Asus Eee PC, you’ll be getting a more traditional Li-ion battery which gives out power for approx. 2.5 to 5 hours, or choose a newer model with a 6-Cell 48Wh Li-ion Battery or Li-polymer battery which should help you get more time.

2. Your price: how much and why?

If you’re on a limited budget (say: you’re a student, buying a 2nd/3rd PC, a present for a kid,…) then you may want to steer away from the latest models and choose an earlier model. But the oldest models really do have the shortest life span. Buying an extra battery may add an unexpected expense and cut the difference between the model you bought and a more expensive model with longer battery life. In other words, do your homework carefully, and treat any manufacturer battery life times as generally approximate. You may do better (but not likely!)… most likely you will get about 60-75% of the amount because you will not always run your machine on the most optimal settings. So figure carefully.

3. Its size and weight: how much do you want to carry?

This sounds like an odd point, but if you look carefully, you will notice that the Asus Eee PCs with the longer battery life do really weigh more. That’s partly because the machines themselves are getting bigger – 10.1″ vs 7.0″. But the difference may be important to you if you are buying this to put in your kid’s backpack or planning to slip it into a small briefcase or valise. The Eee PC 1000HA sports 7 hours but weights 1.45Kg and that is approximately 50% heavier than the Eee PC 701SD which weighed only 0.92Kg. This also goes for the physical dimension: the newest bigger machines are quite a lot bigger than the original ones.

Weighing up these factors will help you decide whether you value battery life over price or weight or portability. One aspect that seems to matter less though is the preference of OS. Most people these days do prefer XP over Linux for simple choice of applications. So which Asus Eee PC will you be buying? If you’re not sure…

Netbooks have become increasingly popular. People have been busy with their professional lives. They want to be in a position to work from anywhere. There are Internet deadlines to be met in fields like freelancing. And so this portable scientific instrument is selling like hot cakes these days. It is logical to invest in the best in any field. So if you are looking for a netbook, why not go for the best one. It is going to see you through your professional chores. Thus it has to be up to the mark in every field.

Now the question arises: Which features make a good or the best netbook? The question is easy and hard at the same time. The reason: The features can be summed up without much trouble. But the features are hard to be assimilated in one laptop. Following are the features.First things first! It has to be portable. A three to four pound netbook is the ideal weight as any more starts to bear on your shoulders. Ultra-portable netbooks are the ones most in demand. The keyboard also has to be well sized. The netbook should be slim and not too overbearing. There has to be a balance between netbook size and screen size. It should be slim and with less density. SSD installation takes care of that. A 17-inches monitor is considered ideal but then the resolution has to be perfect. 1024X600 pixels are smart as they bear clarity, good graphics and give less strain to the eyes. You should anyway wear anti-radiation specs to prevent any defect. After all, netbook screens are closer than PC monitors.

Storage capacity is a big feature. 1.6 to 2.2 Hz Intel Atom CPU, 2GB to 4 GB of RAM, and 250 to 320 GB hard disk drive space makes the netbook fluent. There should be scope for enhancement too. The netbook should have an in-built Wi-Fi. Current netbooks should be 3G-enabled, as the technology will soon monopolize the market. Battery life should not be less than 6 hours with additional life inducing scope. A great netbook with low battery backup is like a lion without claws. A 6-cell structure adds pep. Graphics and texts on netbooks have the tendency to bounce. So SSD installation should be made use of. They work better than HDD to stabilize the screen content. The best netbook should not be too noisy and inflexible. Generally they are used in the middle of a crowd. People may have complaints. For optical options, Blue-ray is a very potent technique developed only recently. Netbooks are having it installed at the first call. Since there are no movable organs, with an SSD, the setup is quieter and matte display staid. The storage capacity must also be large enough for the smooth functioning of the netbook. But on the whole, netbook is meant only for small string work, travel duty and gaming purposes. Thus, extremely high storage is not that necessary.

Premium, Vista, Linux and Windows XP operations are generally preferred for netbooks. Linux is the cheapest operation but it misses vital points and may not adapt to various downloads and anti-virus. Windows XP or Microsoft FrontPage is what adds strains of efficiency to a netbook. In future, it seems that netbooks will have greater use in whole fields. Therefore, best operative system should be encouraged even in netbooks. 3 to 4 USB portals; two on each side is the general trend. The best netbook should have great web storage too, and an adaptable processor to ensure good speed. Intel Core Duo is working well with almost all the brands. It is an added advantage if the netbook has in-built web cam and Bluetooth.

The best netbook should be user-friendly in terms of price too. The price cut is at $500. Anything above it is rendered expensive. It is however obvious that a netbook with all the above qualities will be costly. Still with discounts, exchange options and flat cut rates, a negotiable price should be affordable. Dell, Acer Aspire, Sony, Samsung and Toshiba have all been trying diligently to create the best. The Eee version laptops are at present the closet to perfection. It meets many of the above standards. Still there is scope for improvement.

The Gateway Netbook is a compact and light weight personal computer built to run on Windows Vista or higher. The Netbook comes standard with 1 Gigabyte of dual-drive RAM, which might not seem like a lot, but do remember that just a few short years ago when we ran windows XP 1 gigabyte of RAM was a luxury.

Although with Vista in the driver’s seat 1 Gb of Dual drvie RAM does not always seem to be enough. I would recommend running system config wizards and also optimizing the speed of your Windows Vista installation before gettting into heavy using of the device.

The netbook is obviously more catered towards doing on line tasks rather than running memory expensive software such as Photoshop or any PC games. The graphics card is ATI Radeon and carries’ its own dedicaded memory which is good because it wont lock up from playing videos or gaming. I like to play Diablo 2 online in the multiplayer version and it runs nice and smooth with my netbook.

I would definitely recommend this computer to any one who is looking for a nice light device that only has what they need. Netbooks carry no extra hardware. The only media is the USB port and SD card reader. No DVD player or Disk drives of any kind. If you have a larger device for multi-purpose use and you just need something basic for checking your email or blogging on the go, this is the device for you.
About the Author:

Macintosh or simply Mac is a brand name of personal computers which have been developed, designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is an advanced version of the original Macintosh computer that was released by Apple in January 1984. Mac was the first commercially successful personal computer that featured a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and a mouse in lieu of a command line interface. Apple consolidated its various desktop computer models and released the feature packed iMac computer in 1998. The unit registered extremely good sales around the world throughout the year.
Apple’s current models of Mac laptops operate on a x86 processor which is manufactured by Intel. These models come with a minimum 1GB of RAM memory. In April 2006, Apple announced the release of its Boot Camp software that allowed the users to install Windows XP operating system (OS) on their Macs. There has been a significant increase in the sale of Macs in recent times. Apple reported a sale of 2,164,000 Mac units in the last quarter of 2007.
Mac laptop’s hardware typically includes two data transfer ports, a Combo Drive and a GMA Graphics Card. The machine’s operating system enjoys a near absence of any malware or spyware as it operates on secured UNIX roots and has a comparatively small user base. Initially, the Mac’s hardware architecture was so closely tied to its operating system that it was almost impossible to boot an alternative OS into the Mac. Due to the release of third party visualization softwares like Crossover Mac, VMWare Fusion and Open Firmwares, the Macs are no longer limited to run just Mac operating systems.
Market research indicates that Apple draws its customer base from a higher income group. Higher income theoretically correlates with well educated social behaviours. This partially explains the Mac’s visibility within certain youthful and avant-garde societies. Latest models of 17′ Mac laptops are targeted at creative professionals and educational industries. The device has got wide acceptance in publishing and printing industries. This high performance device is available at leading leading online stores of the UK.
