Legal Pc Satellite Tv – Satellite Tv for Pc

Posted by admin in January 26th 2012

It is possible to watch pc satellite tv in a legal way without the need for monthly fees like you pay for satellite tv. It doesn’t require buying expensive hardwares used by satellite tv or cable tv like dish, antenna, decoder and tv card. What it only requires are a pc or a laptop and a fast internet connection.

Pc satellite tv is of 3 kinds namely professional, elite and titanium but I am going to emphasize on the most important ones. Elite edition has over three thousand television stations from 90 countries like Canada, China, Nigeria, Spain, US, Uk, Germany, Japan etc. Some of its channels are cnn, bbc, comedy central, to name but a few. Its sold for $49.95 onetime fee. This is another way to save money on satellite tv bills and invest that money in a long time entertainment. What do I mean by a long time entertainment? I mean an entertainment that will last in years to come.

This is a better way to enjoy entertaining shows on your computer. The benefits of using this software are numerous and I recommend it to anyone that loves the world of entertainment. It’s software full of tv channels from over 100 countries, these 100 countries I am writing about includes both developed and developing countries. This will enable you to get a taste of what an entertainment is like in countries other than your own, entertainment as in movies, music and sports. The entertainment doesn’t stop there; it still includes a variety of other shows which you watch on your pc.

I have written a thorough review of this pc satellite tv software. My review will be able to guide you through to get the best pc satellite tv software. Check it out at http://modospot.com/satv.html

How to Choose a Mini Laptop Or Netbook Computer

Posted by admin in January 23rd 2012

Mini laptops or netbooks are the new category of laptops, they are designed as a secondary system that you can carry anywhere you go. Their size is a little bigger than a paperback book, they weigh less than 3 pounds and have battery-saving features. Mini laptop displays are about 7 to 10 inches together with about 512MB to 1GB of RAM and a traditional hard drive. Unlike other laptops, netbooks have slower energy saving processors, so games won’t run as well.

If you are in the market for a netbook here are some things to look for and watch out for:

First you have to know what you want to use it for and what your budget it. If you are looking for a full featured laptop computer then don’t buy a mini laptop or netbook. The processor of a netbook is less powerful than a common laptop, this is to provide longer battery life. Mini laptops are good for doing homework on a word processing program, surfing the internet, working on spreadsheets or other office work and presentations. Buy a netbook with a screen size of 8.9 inch or larger, because if your screen is small the disadvantage is you won’t be able to read an entire web page. This is less of a problem if you have a larger screen. Get a 6 cell battery for it will offer you a whole lot more running time compared to the standard 3 cell batter. Aside from the additional cost you may find it a little heavier, but I think the trade-offs are worth it. Try out the keypad first, and see if you’re comfortable with it. Also check the software that comes pre-installed. Is it everything you need? Shop around, list all the prices you find and compare them.

Do not load heavy applications on your mini laptop, since they are mini they do not have as much memory compared to normal laptops. It is also important for you to know which operating system is best for your mini laptop. Here is some information of the two most commonly used operating systems on mini laptops.

Linux: It considerably lessens the chance of a malware attack because of its smaller user base. The makers also designed its interface to be as easy as windows. There is just one disadvantage, you might have a hard time installing new programs and may need to do some tinkering in the command line. On the whole Linux is getting easier to use all the time, but I would still say only more computer savvy people should choose it for now.

Windows: This is mainly the most common operating system for mini laptops. This OS is compatible with almost every accessory or software program in the market. But because of their massive market share, they are targeted by malware attacks. So you have to have a strong security program.

Mini laptops are much cheaper compared to a normal laptops. So it is easier for you top find a cheap mini laptop deal online. Today there are lots of trustworthy sites online, and if you are not sure if they can be trusted you could always check reviews of them online.

What is the Difference Between a Netbook and a Laptop?

Posted by admin in January 14th 2012

There are notebook, there are laptops, and there are netbooks. Many people are aware of this, but most people could not tell you difference between the three. The netbook is the baby of the bunch: younger, smaller and a lot less mature.

A netbook, simply put, is a smaller notebook computer. They are called “net” books because they are designed to access the internet. Although some can function the same as larger counterparts, many have only the features necessary for mobile communication and web browsing.

The other two members of the mobile computer family are not defined by their capabilities. Notebooks and laptops are classified strictly by their size. A laptop computer is the largest option. Its name means: a computer that you can sit on your lap. A notebook computer has a similarly simple definition: a computer the size of a writing notebook. Within their primary definition of notebook or laptop, these computers will vary in features, power and functionality.

Although the definition seems simple, there are few additional determinates besides being small and great for the internet. Netbooks are generally quite affordable. Some define a netbook as a smaller, lighter notebook that is under $500. Some computer manufacturers do not agree with this definition.

In order to remain low cost, net focused notebooks lack the power of their mobile cousins. They sometimes are unable to run the same operating systems as notebooks and desktops, and may not run certain programs. They will however run all the applications necessary to use the internet.

For many though, hey are not aware of the performance difference between a notebook and netbook until they use them. Some models do not include DVD or CD drives. Other users may notice that the little systems do not function as fast as their desktops and become discouraged.

Size, one of the strengths of the netbook, is possibly its greatest limitation. These tiny computers often do not have full size keyboards, which can be hard for adults to use. They also have tiny screens. Not everyone prefers trying to read an internet page on a 9 inch screen.

Although there are many options available today in computers, it shouldn’t be daunting. To be honest, it really isn’t that hard to understand the difference between a netbook and laptop. As long as you stick to your needs when it is your turn to buy your new mobile computer you will be happy with your choice.

It is a wireless pc, but I have the ac cable plugged in correctly. It seems like I cant turn it off or on. I tried the suggestions but I still have a black screen. Any more ideas? Thanks

Difference between Virus and Worm

Posted by admin in January 4th 2012

There is a continuous development of computers and intent technologies but in the mean time all these developments  on one side leads to the development  in the various fields  for example  education , communication and  business, but  on the other  side it caused several  threats  on the Internet such as virus, trojan horse, worm, and spyware .

But before discussing on the process to get rid of these  threats, we need to understand what exactly these threats are and how they spreads.

A virus is a program or code that copies itself into other programs, it execute itself and replicate itself. Virus can infect desktop and network server, some viruses are programmed to damage the computer by damaging programs deleting files or reformatting the hard disk. Others are not designed to do any damage, but simply to replicate themselves and make their presence in video, and audio messages. These viruses can create problems for the computer user. They take computer memory used by important programs, these viruses can crash your system and slow your computer or even some times freezes the computer .

Viruses are of many kind and they infected different files like file infector viruses. These viruses normally infects executable code, such as .exe and .dll  files. They can infect other  files when an infected program is copied  from floppy, hard drive or from the network . Boot sector viruses infect the boot record on floppy disks and hard disks. All floppy disks and hard disks  contain a small program in the boot record that is run when the computer starts up. Boot sector viruses to this part of the disk and activate when the user attempts to start up from the infected disk these viruses responsible for slow booting of your computer.

Master boot record Master boot record viruses are memory-resident viruses that infect disks in the same manner as boot sector viruses. To repair computer infected by virus you need antivirus.

Worms are almost similar to that of the virus. Unlike the viruses, worm uses computer networks to replicate itself.  It searches for servers with security holes and copies itself .Worms are programs that replicate themselves from system to system without the user. This is in contrast to viruses which requires the spreading of an infected host file, However worms generally exist inside of other files often Word or Excel documents, there is a difference between how worms and viruses use the host file.

To remove all these threats from our computer, we need to download and install antivirus software on our computer. But we have to keep one thing in our mind, that installing antivirus software never means that our computer is free from all the threats, as these virus worms are created on the daily basis, so to make our computer immune against all these new threats, we need to update our antivirus software, we can download these updates form the websites of the antivirus software.

So if  we scan our computer, with the updated antivirus softwares atleast once in a weak, we can make our computer safe and secure against all the threats.

Hidden Object Games Review: Paranormal Agency

Posted by admin in January 1st 2012

Paranormal Agency is a typical hidden object game. You look for hidden objects in order to advance to the next level in the game. In Paranormal Agency, the hidden objects can come in the form of outlines to match, words, or a theme.  The themes can be anything from light sources to ghosts.

Paranormal Agency is very standard. For those who think that hidden object games are too complicated then this is the perfect game for you. The game does not offer all the bells and whistles of the fancier games. It does offer a basic hidden object game without taking up a lot of memory. The file size is about 30MB. This is about a third of the fancier games.

The game begins by Heather Williams calling a paranormal specialist. Apparently, a child has been taken by a ghost. The investigator comes and after the first hidden object search, the investigator says the child is still there. A few searches later, and the child is found and Heather Williams is left with a piece of the ghost. She now has ESP and starts a career in paranormal science. Years pass and the investigator dies. The investigator left his business to Heather. Now she is searching on her own.

Paranormal Agency is supposed to take you on a spooky adventure. Unfortunately, it falls flat. While the graphics are good, they fall short of being scary or even creepy. The dialogue lacks appeal.  Luckily you can skip the dialogue. The game play isn’t bad though. If you are looking for a straight forward hidden object game, this will be right up your alley.

Each scene has you searching for a different amount of hidden objects. Like many hidden object games, the list contains about 5 items at a time. When you find one item, the item disappears from the list and new ones appear until you are down to the last few items. This game has one of my favorite features: the disappearing item. I like it when a game has the item disappear after you find it. I find it makes searching easier because it decreases the clutter.

Paranormal Agency does offer mini-games throughout the game. One mini-game has you detangle thread. Not quite sure of the point, but none-the-less it is an interesting puzzle. Another one of the mini-games is a spot the difference game.  Personally, I love spot the difference games and this one does not let you down. The screen is split in half has arrows on both sides for easy clicking on the differences.

You can find Paranormal Agency at Marco Polo Games. You can try the game for an hour for free. That gives you more than enough time to decide if you like the game or not. If you like it great! You can buy it from the site. If not then there are hundreds of other games to try for free. It won’t take you long to find a hidden object game that is perfect for you at Marco Polo Games.

Essential Study Skills For Higher Education

Posted by admin in December 26th 2011

Do you need to be super smart or an academic genius to get a great grade at college or university? Absolutely not! Many students fail to obtain the grade of which they are capable simply because they don’t realise that a student with an ‘average’ ability can do really well. All that is needed is a consistent approach, organisation, preparation and discovering what the examiner/assessor is looking for and delivering it.

Following my tips and advice will take a little extra time each week but will save a lot of time and stress come assessment time and, more importantly will help you to get that great grade.

Organisation Skills -The first thing you need to do is arrange a good filing system. No one system is right for all, so devise your own. The golden rule here is that whatever system you use must be something that will enable you to lay your hand on notes and work instantaneously. Precious time is lost and stress levels rise when students are unable to find a particular piece of paper, set of notes, article, reference etc.
Note Books-Get a separate book for each subject jot down essential lecture notes, ideas, lecturer’s comments and any other gems that you come across. Making a special note to add a reference when appropriate.

There is nothing more frustrating than to have a great quote, piece of information etc and then to lose marks because you are unable to add an accurate reference. Where appropriate transfer information from your notebook into your main subject file-but don’t dispose of the original-you never know if you may need it!

Plan Your Time Effectively/Time Management-Take ten minutes on Sunday evening to sit down and plan your week. Have you heard the saying “People don’t plan to fail-they fail to plan”? You will learn how true this is as you go through life; not having a plan is like bobbing about at sea, never reaching a destination.

The best and easiest way to achieve anything in life is to decide on your goal, set a date by which it needs to be completed and devise a plan of how you’re going to get there.

Be realistic, setting unachievable goals will lead to regular failure which in turn will undermine your self-confidence.

Learn to prioritise- During your Sunday planning session look at the week a head rank your tasks in order of priority. If you have got a particular busy week look at ways that you can “steal” additional time e.g. missing a leisure activity or carrying over a non-urgent task to the following week.

The correct approach to lectures and tutorials/seminars is also vital to success.

Why do we need to consider the right approach? Simply because so many students get it wrong; they fail to capitalise on these golden opportunities by committing one of the following sins:

1. Non-attendance
2. Attend but fail to capitalise due to:

- boredom
-lack of understanding
- too busy note taking to understand the concepts that are being explained

Very few students bother to prepare for lectures why? Simply because they have nothing to do except sit and listen. This approach constitutes a massive waste of an important resource. Correct preparation can provide a solution to all three points under ‘2′ above, the result being that the student obtains greater value from the session by way of greater understanding which will ultimately lead to better marks.

OK so what is the correct approach?

Establish the subject matter of the lecture in advance. Read the relevant pages in your textbook, conduct some research in to the particular area/issue. Get an understanding of what will be discussed. Jot down some notes; involve yourself with the subject matter.

This is important as having a prior knowledge and understanding will enable you to follow what is being said alleviating confusion/boredom.

Rapidly trying to take note of everything the lecturer is saying is not a great idea. So many times I would look around the lecture theatre and see the majority of people scribbling away furiously. The fact is that unless the lecturer is specifically dictating information s/he wants you to know, it will be extremely difficult to simultaneously listen, write and understand.

By obtaining a prior understanding of the subject matter and having jotted down some relevant notes will free you up to give your undivided attention to the lecturer, perhaps making a few additional notes on info you can’t get elsewhere. Ask yourself why you would want to waste lecture time writing down information that can be easily obtained from textbook? Yes, sounds stupid doesn’t it? But look around at your next lecture and see how many people are doing it!

Post lecture you need to spend some time thinking about what has been said. Re-visit texts and add any new notes to those made earlier and check out any references made by the lecturer.

I am a huge advocate of typing up your notes, simply because it is easier to edit and add additional information as you go along. Furthermore they can be printed off as and when required for revision purposes.

- Please, please, please remember to save a copy all notes, essays, projects, data etc to a removable storage device that you keep in a safe place as computers crash and laptops get stolen.

Tutorials/seminars

Preparation here is vital. I know of a couple of tutors who dismiss from the class, any student who has failed to prepare.

Typically the group will have prepared answers to a set of questions or may be asked to present information on a particular issue. The whole point of a tutorial is to encourage independent study. To get students to think, research; formulate ideas and present/discuss their findings.

Failure to prepare and contribute rather defeats the object, at the very least you’ll be passing up on a golden opportunity at worst you may end up looking foolish.

So, prepare properly. Read your lecture note’s, texts’ or other relevant material and formulate your answers. Sometimes tutorial sets are required to do a group project. If so, make sure you meet regularly and allocate tasks and ensure that everyone pulls their weight.

Use the experience to develop your ‘team working’ skills.

Tutorials/seminars present an excellent opportunity because you are in the company of an expert. As such are presented with an opportunity to ask questions or gain clarity on a particular point, use it! Think about how you can expand those notes, gain more insight/better understanding that you can use in coursework/exams to get those extra marks

Following a tutorial you need to add your answers and any additional information to the relevant section of your file and update your notes.

At the end of each module you should have a complete set of ‘revision notes’ comprising information obtained from all your sources. Make sure that you keep up to date, expand your notes, a relevant quote a new development. The more comprehensive your notes and the better you knowledge base the more confident and less stressed you will be come exam time

Make sure that you print off a copy of your latest notes and review them on a regular basis. This doesn’t have to take up any extra time, how do you get to university? Walk, take the bus? Thirty minutes each way? That’s an hour’s revision everyday, this equates to loads of ‘free’ revision time that hasn’t impinged on any other activity!

By going through your notes on a regular basis will get the information embedded in your memory making exam time far less stressful as you will already have an excellent knowledge which can then just ‘honed’.

Buy a set of index cards and jot down main points/important information. Always carry a set with you. When you’re standing in the supermarket queue, waiting at the dentist etc get them out and go through them. You’ll be amazed at how a couple of minutes here and there can really add up.

Don’t just read but test yourself, sometimes when we just read we can get distracted. Try writing the info’ down-make up a question and answer it, this will force you to concentrate. It will also ensure that not only do you know it you also understand it and can apply it. Knowing and understanding are not necessarily the same thing! Preparing written answers will unveil areas of weakness. If possible ask you tutor to read through your answers-this will enable you to determine whether you are on the right track.

If writing out answers seems unappealing don’t forget that your going to have to do it in the exam, probably for up to 3 hours. There’s nothing worse than writer’s cramp-now is your chance to practise and strengthen those fingers’!

Educating Schools, Parents and Kids About the Environment

Posted by admin in December 24th 2011
Summertime is here and kids are out of school, so it is the perfect time for parents and kids to get serious about our environment and keeping it a safe and beautiful place to enjoy for many years to come.

According to a recent article in THE Journal by Chris Riedel entitled, “Green Schools: The Color of Money” school districts have finally discovered that going green can mean financial rewards.

It is not just about turning off lights, changing light bulbs or shutting off idle computers — it is about rethinking the way things are done at every level from companies, to schools, or even at home.

Schools need to analyze everything from natural gas and electricity use to heating and air conditioning systems, along with maintenance and construction procedures. It is important for any organization to develop long-term plans.

The Taunton Public Schools called in a group known as Energy Education, who helps develop energy conservation programs for U.S. school districts with the goal of converting dollars spent on energy to dollars spent on education. Tis group was retained to help find ways to decrease its energy consumption and their bottom line.

One interesting example mentioned in the article; typical school vending machines cost up to $450 a year to run, but by using a motion sensor that shuts down the machine’s compressor when there is no activity, schools can save up to two-thirds with each machine, and most schools districts have from 40 to 50 vending machines.

In just two years, the Energy Education program helped Taunton save more than $660,000 in energy costs, including costs on electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, and water. Everything from disabling vending machine lights to managing irrigation played a role in savingsand our environment.

Students everywhere in schools across the country are also beginning to get the message about taking responsibility for helping to save the planet. To help parerets out, following is a list of environmentally inspired websites for kids to take a look at this summer:

Environmental Education for Kids is an online magazine for grades four to eight created by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which has short articles and activities about animals, and plants.

- EPA Student Center – This Environmental Protection Agency site includes information on a wide range of environmental issues. Kids can click on “Fun Activities” to play environmental games.

- Be, Live, Buy Different – A project of the World Wildlife Fund and the Center for a New American Dream, the site was created to inform young people about how everything we buy and use affects biodiversity. Take the Buy-O-Diversity Quiz!

- The Green Squad – An NRDC website that’s also available in Spanish shows you how to identify and solve environmental problems. You can can explore a colorful virtual school room by room, and use the mouse to locate potential hazards. Teachers and parents will find the site useful as it offers a wide range of resources.

- The Greens – Izz and Dex are green animated characters that not only have green skin, but they have lots of great ideas about protecting the planet. Visit this site to watch short cartoons about environmental issues Nature Challenge for Kids.

Nature Challenge for Kids – a David Suzuki Foundation website place for all kinds of fun activities starting with ten simple ways you can protect nature.

Remember to join community projects this summer in your town to help pick up garbage at the beach, or simply at a nearby park. Teaching our children about the importance of the environment is a job that both parents and teachers must share — at home and at school.

Are people more spoiled now then they were 15 years ago?

Posted by admin in December 24th 2011
I was born in 1990, and to me, it seems that in this decade, it takes more material things to keep people happy. As an example, back when I was 8, all the kids wanted a gameboy color, and when they got it, it kept them content for MONTHS, now, a child will want an ipod, then a wii, then a laptop etc, what do you think is causing this need to have more and more ?

The Benefits of Child Oriented Laptops

Posted by admin in December 17th 2011

The more our society advances towards the electronic age, the more we need to start our children out at a younger age on laptops so that they become familiar with the technology. Let’s face it anything we can do to give our children a “leg up” in the world is worth our time and investment. And many of the large children’s toy manufactures have realized this and are gearing computer laptop educational toys towards the younger kids of today.

The younger child friendly laptops have larger knobs and bright colors to help keep our children’s attention a little longer.  Plus they are integrating our best beloved characters into the software.  Who wouldn’t want to learn something from Winnie the Pooh?  They are able to play with the characters of some of their favorite books and toys while learning skills such as eye hand co-ordination and manual dexterity skills.

The laptop becomes fun for all involved.  Parents working with their children to learn a new skill and kids learning some things on their own once they are shown how to play with their new computer.  Personally, I think this is a much better choice than just sitting your child down in front of the TV watching something that may or may not stimulate their learning process in the correct way.

Children see their older siblings and parents working on computers and want to copy them .  It is something that has been happening in our society for a very long time.  Kids like to mimic anyone, whether it is something bad that they see you or teenagers do, think smoking, cussing, breaking things or seeing something positive like giving hugs, planting plants, creating gifts or working with some type of fun software on the computer, laughing and having fun in life.  I would much rather have my child learn fun productive things than  thinking it is cool to smoke and cuss.

I don’t think children should spend the majority of their time on any type of computer or even indoors for that matter.  Everyone needs sunshine and the cool thing about laptops of any size, you can take them outdoors and play with them there also.  We all need the vitamin D that the sun provides, about 20 minutes worth daily.  It is good for our bodies and our soul to be outside enjoying nature.  Take the laptops outside, sit at a picnic table and enjoy both.  Then close everything up and go run around chasing your child and laughing.  We must teach balance in all things.
