Consolidation of Education Loans

Posted by admin in February 4th 2010

Education has increased in value astronomically and students are forced to get loans to pay for their education. Students take federal and private loans to finance their education. The problem arises after they finish their course. They find it difficult to repay the loan. There may be many reasons why they are unable to pay the loan, like

- they may have taken various small loans to meet their varied expenses at the same time. Now, it may pose an imposing figure.

- Even after completing their course, they might not have found proper gainful employment. Thus, they might not have the capacity to repay the loan.
In such situations, the best way to avoid defaulting on your loan is to take a consolidation loan from any of those companies that offer such loans for former students.

Who are eligible for ACS consolidation?

Normally, ACS consolidation is offered only to those students who have a good reputation of making prompt payments on their loans. Sometimes, even those who are delinquent on their loans are able to avail ACS consolidation. Even if you are at a risk of defaulting on your loan, you can avail ACS consolidation.

What will happen if you default on the ACS Loan?

Defaulting on a loan is not the same as being delinquent on a loan. Defaulting means you have gone past the stage of delinquency. Now, you are completely unable to repay the loan or are unwilling to repay the loan. Some lenders offer the option of deferring your loan for sometime. If that is the case, then you can avail of this option to defer the loan and go past your tough period.

ACS consolidation also permits deferment because of reasons of financial troubles and for unexpected situations. The problem is even with consolidation loans, sometimes, the amount increases astronomically and you are completely unable to repay the loan amount. Also, the collection fees add to your burden. In such situations, you may face some hardship as the lender will try all ways possible to get his money back.

Additionally, you may also face the below mentioned difficulties when you default in an ACS consolidation or in any other type of loan:

- Your credit rating will drastically come down and you may not be considered reliable.

- You will be totally ineligible to gain any federal aid.

- You will face troubles and difficulties with lawsuits.

- The lender will no longer give you any deferment options, as he will not trust you any more.

- You may not be able to obtain certain licenses that you need, as your credibility is lost.

Whenever you go in for an education loan, have a proper plan. Decide on how and how much you can repay comfortably. Think of all the possible unexpected situations and financial troubles that may occur. Work out plans on how you will handle them. Don’t shrug off and take it easy. This money is a responsibility. Proper planning of the amount of loan, how you use it and how you will repay it is very essential. Since you have taken so much hardship on gaining a loan for your education, it is important to study well and complete your course with flying colors. This will ensure what you get a proper job after you finish your course. Then, you can easily and comfortably repay your loan.

Health Tips For Computer Users

Posted by admin in February 4th 2010

Many people spend a great number of hours working on their computers; some because their work is done on a computer, and some because they enjoy relaxing with a computer. Both groups would benefit from observing the proper, healthy use of computers.

PREVENT EYE STRAIN

The picture you see on your computer screen is actually going on and off 25 to 80 times a second, and your eye’s (and brain’s) natural vision retention smooths this flickering out so that it appears to be always on. But this is an unnatural image, and after extended viewing, you may get eye strain, headaches and vision anomalies. To help your eyes: every 15 minutes, lift your eyes off the screen and stare at a distant object – out of the window, to the end of the passage, or the most distant object you can find. A dark green object is the best colour to stare at. By staring at a distant object, your eye muscles can relax, as they don’t have to pull the eyes into focus, where both pupils are angled in towards the centre, but instead your pupils are pointing out in almost parallel lines of vision. Dark green is a low glare, relaxing colour.

WATCH YOUR BACK

Because we sit in almost the exact same position for maybe hours at a time, that position needs to be correct. If we slouch or sit in a way that we use our back muscles to hold us there, this is going to result in a stiff back or knotting and cramps later, when we are trying to go to sleep in bed. Make sure your chair supports your back, and try and sit up as straight as you can without being tense or uncomfortable. If your chair is not so great, try swinging your chair around and sitting back to front for awhile (if this is possible) or else get up and stretch every so often to loosen up your muscles.

AVOID REPETIVE STRAIN DISORDER (RSD)

Holding the mouse in the same way for long periods, over days and weeks and months, can cause a condition known as repetitive strain disorder, where a joint such as the wrist is severely damaged by continuous, slight strain over a long time period. This damage can be quite painful and hard to rectify if left untreated. To avoid this problem, every so often, take your hand off the mouse and put it under the desk and push upward with the back of your hand, then push down on the desk with your fingers. Then flex your fingers rapidly, then move your hand up and down and sideways, flexing the wrist – in other words, do all the movements that are different from the movements you do with the mouse. Especially do these movements if your mouse hand starts feeling stiff or sore, and even more especially if it’s the wrist.

DON’T BE STIFF NECKED

To avoid getting a stiff neck, make sure that the computer screen is angled correctly, so that the screen surface is at 90 degrees to your line of vision. Also, arrange your desk, screen and chair so that the screen is at a height that is most comfortable for your neck muscles. Looking slightly downwards at the screen is usually the best, as this relaxes your neck, but experiment a little until you find the most comfortable screen height for your neck muscles.

USE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT

Make sure that your screen has good focus and resolution, as a blurry, indistinct image will cause you to screw up your eyes to focus, resulting in fatigue and eventually eye strain. Keyboards are cheap, so find one that is easy to use, without having to use excessive force, and find one with a layout that is comfortable for you. Do not use a mouse that is too small or too big for your hand, but find one that “fits” you and is always comfortable.

CONCLUSION

This advice may seem trivial, but following it can prevent a lot of rather serious damage to our bodies. These things are easy to do, and will ensure that we will continue to enjoy our computers for a long time to come.

Education Key in Slowing Laptop Theft

Posted by admin in February 3rd 2010

Corporations spend billions of dollars each year repeating the same message over and over. It’s called advertising and it works. A similar approach, according to a recent Processor story, stands the best chance of slowing the never ending tide of stolen laptops: Keep telling employees that they have to guard their machines, and keep telling them how to do it.

Security, of course, is not at the forefront of every employee’s mind. Indeed, people take dumb chances. They leave machines unattended when they go to the rest room in a public venue. They leave them lying on the front seat of an unlocked car when they run into a store. The theme of the Processor piece is that continually drilling best practices and corporate policies into the heads of employees may gradually mitigate this behavior. It’s important because the problem is so big: The Safeware Insurance Agency reports that more than 600,000 machines are stolen annually. About $5.4 billion in proprietary information is lost, and 97 percent of the purloined machines are lost forever.

The story also provides advice on issues tangentially related to stopping theft, such as the importance of management systems to track machines and the use of strong passwords and other strategies to thwart criminals when they do succeed in stealing the machines.

The problem of companies not even knowing if a machine is lost or stolen goes hand-in-hand with theft prevention. The centerpiece of a recent Canadian Technology News story is a study by Absolute Software that spotlights some disturbing malfeasance by respondents: 62 percent say that missing computers aren’t even noticed and another 20 percent say that nothing is done about breaches.

Innovative tools are available, however. The bulk of the piece describes how Absolute Software tracks, manages and recovers wayward computers. The story provides a common-sense rationale for use of such software: Regardless of the impact it has on outside criminals, it is certain to chill internal theft simply because employees will know that it is there.

This PC World story reports on a product that is available in the UK. It is a modern-day equivalent of the prologue from the old Mission: Impossible television show, in which the tape detailing the ridiculous assignment Jim and the gang will pull off in 60 minutes (minus commercials) starts burning seconds after delivery its message. In this case, Virtuity’s BackStopp will wipe data off hard disks if the machine is taken from an unauthorized area. The surveillance is done via the Internet, Wi-Fi or Global System for Mobile communication or radio frequency identification if the laptop is turned off.

The story adds that if a machine has a Webcam, it can be instructed to take a picture of the presumptive thief and transmit it to the central office. The data destruction procedures, which meet standards set by the U.S. Department of Defense’s National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual, occur without alerting the thief.

A somewhat similar initiative, this one in India, is Locate Laptop from Unistal Systems. The software reports its location whenever it logs on. Thus, the owner or his or her company visit a Web portal to get a fix on a stolen machine. The IT Nerd provides a lot of useful links: iAlertU, Laptop Alarm, Lojack For Laptops and, for physically securing a laptop, Kensington Cable. The writer concludes that the best way to stop laptop theft is cutting down the amount of time the machine is left unattended.

There is good news and bad news in all this. The good news is that there is a lot of technology aimed at securing, managing, finding and, when necessary, disabling laptops. The bad news is that there are many people stealing laptops – and many corporate workers who are not paying attention.

What’s the Difference Between a Netbook and a Laptop?

Posted by admin in January 30th 2010

Although netbooks have been around for a couple of years, they are quite knew and unknown for most people. That’s why many confuse them with laptops or try to find the differences between netbooks and laptops.

That’s why in the rows below I’m going to explain to you what is the difference between a netbook and a laptop in a couple of short and easy to understand lines.

First of all, netbooks are like the tiny brothers of regular laptops. that’s because they are lighter and smaller. While the average laptop has a 15.4″ screen and weights around 4.5-5 pounds, the average netbook these days has a 10″ screen and weight around 2.8 pounds. And since it has a smaller screen, it also has a smaller body and it’s more compact and easier to carry around.

Then, netbooks come with smaller screens and usually smaller resolution. You might have already got that from the previous paragraph, but since netbooks are smaller, so are their screens. You can get them with displays between 7 to 12 inches, while laptops have displays between 12 to 19 inches , and there are only a handful of 12″ versions.

Also, netbooks are more portable than laptops. Besides that size issue, they also come with better battery life. if you could expect and average 3 hours life from a 15.4″ notebook, a standard 10″ netbooks can easily give you these days 6 to 8 hours, with some even passing the 10 hours mark. and that’s something a standard laptop can’t offer you.

the bigger autonomy of netbooks is mostly due to the lower hardware they house. Yes, netbooks are meant to use low-consumption hardware that can only offer a limited amount of performances. they’re good for basic every-day stuff, but when it comes to resources hungry applications or games, they can’t take the challenge. Laptops on the other hand can even house ultra-per formant hardware, as there are bigger desktop-replacement devices with up to 3 hard-drives, Sli graphic cards and high end CPUs.

Last but not at all least, there’s the price mater. A standard netbook goes for around $350 and offers a good 10″ screen, decent hardware, good built low profile body and an autonomy of around 8 hours. You can get laptops for these money actually, but you’ll end up with a big and bulky device with hardware not much better than what you can find in netbooks and very poor autonomy. A good laptop though runs for 600-800 bucks and high end versions could easily jump $2000 . So, although there are differences in performances between laptops and netbooks, these differences are seen in their price tags.

So, as a conclusion, a netbook is like a sub-laptop. It has a screen, keyboard, touch-pad and most used ports and can offer enough power to run standard apps. It’s also compact light and comes with a very good battery life for a very good price. laptops on the other hand are bigger and with a lower autonomy, but they can provide all the extra performance netbooks lack.

There are other tiny details too, and you can find out more in this article about the difference between netbooks and laptops.

For example, let’s say your surfing the web and you accidently happen to land on a wrong website which downloads a Trojan onto your computer without you knowing. That Trojan could scan your computer and search for personal information. Once the information is found, such as credit card numbers, bank account numbers.. etc, it will relay the information to hackers online. However, with a firewall, the Trojan will not be able to communicate without permission. The firewall will stop the transmission of information and save your computer. This software is vital to your computers wellbeing.

Now onto antivirus and spyware. Many people are unaware of the importance of antivirus and spyware protection. What people do not understand is that these nasty bugs will download themselves onto your computer and wreak havoc. This corrupted software will go about hijacking your computer, making it really slow and basically stop you from operating your system.

If you want to save yourself from these problems, make sure you have the proper firewall and antivirus software. The one that works the best is Internet Security by PC Tools. This software is award winning and rated as a best buy from many PC Magazines.
